Lansdowne is a picturesque rural village located in the Mid North Coast region near Taree in New South Wales, Australia.
Situated in the Lansdowne River valley, Lansdowne is adjacent to the scenic Coorabakh National Park and the village of Langley Vale. The Langley Vale Timber Tramway served the area from 1897 to 1933. Lansdowne is also close to Coopernook and the Lansdowne State Forests, making it a gateway to the northern hinterland of the Manning River Valley.
The first settler of Lansdowne was Benjamin Saville (1814-1896). In 1848, Benjamin acquired 50 acres of land on the northern bank of the Lansdowne River. His property became a prominent crossing point for travelers journeying to and from Port Macquarie for nearly four decades.
The village and its surroundings are served by a post office, a general store, a primary school catering to children from kindergarten to year 6, and a bowling and recreation club. Lansdowne is blessed with abundant natural wildlife, and fishing is a popular activity enjoyed by locals.
As of the 2006 census, Lansdowne had a population of 433 residents.
The Lansdowne rail station, which was part of the North Coast Line, ceased operation in 1975.
